Knots Seminar
September 13
Outdoor enthusiasts use an assortment of ropes and knots for outdoor skills. Many of these same knots can be useful for a variety of everyday uses, ranging from camping, climbing, sailing, loading vehicles, and more. This seminar will cover various knots including hitches, bends, loops and other important knots. If you would like to have the mystery taken out of knot tying, this class is for you.

Bike Tour of Southern Humboldt
October 9
Come improve your road cycling and touring skills. This outing is perfect for intermediate cyclists who have familiarity and comfort riding on shared use roads. We will be riding approximately a 25 mile route as we delve deeper into the wonders of bike touring. Topics that will be covered during this outing will include bike handling, improved efficiency, as well as bike packing and trip planning. Participants need to bring their own bike, should wear proper riding apparel, and must have a bike helmet.
Prerequisite: Attendance of Northern Humboldt Bike Tour or instructor approval

Bike Tour of Northern Humboldt
September 11
There is no better way to see or experience the world then from the saddle of a bike. This outing is perfect for beginning to intermediate cyclists who know the basics of riding but are looking to improve or brush up on their skills. We will set out on some great back roads to explore and learn the basics of bike touring. You’ll receive instruction on proper shifting, braking and hill descending/climbing techniques, how to avoid road hazards, road etiquette, basic field maintenance, as well as bike packing and trip planning. Participants need to bring their own bike, should wear proper riding apparel, and must have a bike helmet. The total riding distance will be 10-15 miles.
Prerequisite: Basic cycling skills check off at pre-trip meeting or instructor approval

Navigation 101
Option I: September 20 and 26
Option II: October 11 and 17
Join us as we learn the essential skill set of map & compass based navigation. This course will benefit both the novice navigator as well as those looking to build confidence in their skills. The course includes a combination of classroom presentations and outdoor practical experience that will help you to better plan hikes and backcountry trips. Topics covered include how to interpret topographical maps, the features of a compass, how to orient a map to match the environment both with and without a compass, how to take bearings and triangulate your position using a compass, and how to use a map & compass to navigate to new locations. A compass may be purchased on the first day of class for an additional fee of $10.00 - $20.00.

Bicycle Maintenance and Repair
Option I: September 14
Option II: November 9
This course will cover basic bike maintenance including overall condition, drive train, brakes and trail maintenance. By the end of this course you should be able to service and repair your bike both at home and on the road or trail. Participants should bring their bicycle, what tools they have, and wear old clothes.
