The Institute of Industrial Tech is a student run business located on the Humboldt State University campus. The IIT produces several production and custom items such as desks, tables, shelves, and any other item that can be made of wood, metal, or plastics. In addition to the custom work and production the Institute also does materials testing such as durability, structural integrity, and material strengths. The IIT mission is:
The Institute of Industrial Tech (IIT) is a pioneering effort in the field of applied education. The IIT's main goal is to provide an unparalleled educational opportunity not offered in the conventional classroom setting. The IIT provides students with the opportunity to apply the theories and concepts they learn in a variety of fields to a true-to-life business enterprise.
The IIT is comprised of two main branches: service and product manufacture. The main goal, in respect to our service branch, is to provide our customers with quality service and products at an affordable price. In respect to product manufacturing, the goal is to build an innovative product mix satisfying the needs of our students.
In our efforts to meet the needs of the students involved, the IIT does not lose sight of our promise to support Humboldt State University and the community alike. We strive to provide our goods and services without competing against local businesses or contractors.
The Institute is part of the Industrial Technology Department and works with the faculty to achieve the highest standard of quality possible.
Requirements:
There are two courses required for students who want to participate in the Institute for Industrial Technology: IT 230 Manufacturing I and IT 220 Technical Woodworking. These courses can be taken concurrently with enrollment in the Institute.
